What Is Mindfulness?

If there is one thing that occupational therapy and mindfulness practice have in common, it is that many people don’t easily know how to describe them. Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing on the present moment. Additionally, it includes acknowledging one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. This may seem like a lot to ask of a small child. Yet, children learn about mindfulness practices in schools every day. In fact, there is growing research to support its use in schools.

YouTube Interview Series

Recently, I published the first interview of a new series of talks with various professionals. In this first interview, I spoke with certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher Sacha Suarez of Mindful Kids Miami. We discussed several topics including what mindfulness is, how to introduce it to young children, and how to connect it to play.
