08 Mar What is Executive Function?
Executive function is a set of skills which includes flexible thinking, working memory, and self-control. These skills are used to complete the daily tasks needed to manage life. Difficulty with executive function can cause children to struggle with following directions, focus, and handling emotions. Imagine the steps it takes to get ready for an activity, participate in it, and clean up after it. All these steps involve executive function skills.
The Executive Function Podcast
As you can imagine, the totality of executive function can be a lot to consume. Luckily there is the Executive Function Podcast to help us learn all about it one episode at a time. Recently, I interviewed its host, Sarah Kesty, after being a guest on her the podcast. Aside from giving her explanation of executive function, we also discussed when these skills become more challenging for children, how the pandemic has impacted children, additional resources for parents and professionals, and more. You can watch the interview on the Playapy YouTube channel.
